Invisalign: Who Can Have Treatment?

If you’ve investigated straightening your teeth discreetly, you have almost certainly come across Invisalign for adults and teens. The treatment uses clear, thin plastic aligners to straighten teeth, made from its proprietary SmartTrack® material.

Invisalign is often a good alternative to traditional metal braces that are more visible and trickier to keep clean.

What Can Invisalign Correct?

Invisalign has been developed and refined over many years and can treat most problems corrected by traditional fixed braces. These include bite issues, teeth that are rotated or out of alignment, and gaps between teeth.

It is a great solution for many people, but it won’t be right for everyone. Some people may have complex orthodontic problems that are best corrected with fixed braces. Others might have existing dental problems that make them less suitable for Invisalign.

You can rest assured we will only recommend Invisalign if we feel it is a safe and effective solution that will provide the results you desire.

Invisalign: Are you eligible for treatment?
Even complex misalignments and bite issues can be resolved with Invisalign.

Who is a Good Candidate for Invisalign?

Several factors can make you a good candidate for this treatment, including:

  • Good oral health.
  • No major dental restorations.
  • Good oral hygiene.
  • Commitment to following your treatment plan.

Oral Health

When you visit Twogether Dental for Invisalign, we must assess your oral health. Invisalign treatment involves moving your teeth, including the roots, through your jawbone.

For treatment to be successful, you must have teeth that are generally strong and healthy and have no signs of active tooth decay. You must also not have any active gum disease.

No Major Dental Restorations

Dental restorations like dental bridges or dental implants can affect treatment. They will not necessarily make you ineligible for Invisalign, so it is worth an initial consultation and discussion with our Invisalign dentist.

Oral Hygiene

Invisalign is easy to use since the aligners are removable for oral care. However, you must still commit to following a good oral hygiene routine and cleaning your teeth after every meal and your aligners each time you remove them.

Otherwise, food and dental plaque can become trapped under the aligners, increasing the risk of oral problems such as tooth decay and gum disease.

Commitment

The aligners must be worn for at least 20 hours daily. We would prefer you only remove them for oral care and meals. Fixed braces may be a better choice if you are likely to forget to wear your aligners.

How Much Will Invisalign Cost?

We know price is an important factor, and Invisalign costs are similar to braces, starting from $2,800; your dental insurance may cover some of these costs. We follow the Ontario Dental Association Fee Guide.

However, your smile is unique, and the cost will vary depending on whether you must correct mild, moderate or more complex orthodontic problems. Try our Invisalign Cost Calculator to learn more.
